BUGS EAT WASTE!
FILM AT 11:00

To market a good news story for Georgia Gulf about the successful completion of the nation’s first large-scale bio-remediation project. Our goal was to stimulate interest from the environmental media and the public and to publicize Georgia Gulf’s commitment to the environment.
The project used naturally occurring bacteria, commonly referred to as “bugs,” to destroy hazardous waste. Background information was gathered through interviews to develop a written news release, video news release, backgrounder and schematic drawing of the project. Positive messages were developed, target audiences identified, phases of the project photographed, local and national environmental media contacted, press packets disseminated and media follow-ups conducted.

The Associated Press and local print media, as well as four out of five television stations in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans markets, gave positive coverage to the story. The story was also cited for a Brown Pelican award, which is given to an environmental reporter for covering a story that shows a commitment to protecting Louisiana’s environment.
